Dear colleagues,

Welcome back from Summer Holidays! I hope that you found time for a decent break and soaked up solar energy in your body. Unfortunately, not only sunshine but heavy floods and wildfires all over Europe. TV News mainly follow what happens in inhabited areas but obviously there have been severe damages in arable lands as well. Our role is to support farmers in applying sustainable crop production practices which partly mitigate progress of climate change.

The organizers of the 19th EWRS Symposium in Athens 2022 are now ready to receive your contributions. The EWRS Event Manager will be used for the upload of Abstracts, followed by the review process by SciCom Officers and Session Organizers and finally ending up as Program with Oral and Poster presentations. Details about the Registration and content of the whole event will be discussed and arranged with the Local Committee later this autumn. Just follow the EWRS Newsletters and Symposium site www.ewrs2022.org. The Symposium will be an excellent forum to share the recent outcomes of your research projects in a nice atmosphere.

Your commitment is asked for the EWRS Elections. A call for the position of EWRS Vice President is now announced, please have a look and consider seriously. In addition, we will elect two Additional Board Members from the list of candidates which will be compiled by the current Board. Many times, we have received feedback that the distribution by gender in the EWRS Board is unequal, quite right!  To rectify the situation, we first need female nominees in the list of candidates.  I'm looking forward to receive female nominations and ask you all for full support!

Happy to tell you that Professor Paul Neve, working in the University of Copenhagen, has been appointed for the position of Chair of Editorial Board of Weed Research journal. Having worked together with Alison Haughton, Editor-in-Chief for Weed Research, the whole editorial process has new visions and ideas which are outcomes from dedicated meetings earlier this year. Our role is to keep on sending manuscripts to Weed Research!

The scientific activities of EWRS are still hampered by the covid. A big applause to Professor Ahmet Uludag, Leader of EWRS Working Group Invasive Plants, who bravely organized a physical Workshop in Serbia together with Professor Bojan Konstantinović. We all hope that the pandemic will calm down and travelling restrictions will disappear. The face to face EWRS Symposium in Athens next summer is something we all relish and deserve.

Again, please follow the information flow from the EWRS Communication Team to ensure that you will stay up to date with the coming EWRS actions and events. You are invited to share your own news feeds in the EWRS web site and EWRS social media.

I wish you all colourful autumn months!
