EWRS 20th Symposium – Award Competition for Students

Dear B.Sc., M.Sc. and PhD students,

We are excited to invite you to participate in the EWRS 20th Symposium Award Competition, which aims to recognize and reward outstanding oral and poster contributions from student presenters. This competition offers a valuable opportunity to showcase your research, gain recognition within the scientific community, and receive financial support for your future professional development.

Eligibility

Students (PhD and MS) under the age of 35 on the symposium's start date are eligible to participate. Presentations will be evaluated by a distinguished panel of EWRS members, who will assess the scientific quality, clarity, and overall impact of the research.

Awards

The top three presentations in both oral and poster categories will receive:

  • First Prize:         € 800
  • Second Prize:     € 700
  • Third Prize:       € 600

The awarded prize money can be used to cover travel expenses for future EWRS events through July 2027, supporting continued engagement and dissemination of research within the weed science community.

Recognition & Scholarship

Award winners will receive their official certificates during the closing ceremony of the symposium. Attendance at the closing ceremony is therefore mandatory for all winners, as the awards will only be granted to those present.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Oral presentations will be assessed based on clarity, organization, and research quality of the oral presentation. Presentations should feature a clear title, well-organized slides with readable text and visuals, and a logical flow of information. The research should have defined objectives, well-presented methods, and relevant results, with conclusions that summarize key findings. Presentations should be engaging, well-paced, and feature confident responses to audience questions.
  • Poster presentations will be evaluated based on layout, research content, and conclusions. The poster should have a clear title, subtitle for the different sections, and contact information, with a well-balanced layout, readable fonts, and clear visuals. The research content should include clearly stated objectives, a description of materials and methods, and relevant results. The conclusions should be clear, memorable, and leave the audience with a strong take-home message. The presenting student must be present next to the poster during the poster session.

We strongly encourage all eligible participants to take advantage of this opportunity to showcase their research, gain visibility, and compete for prestigious recognition within the EWRS community.
