New EWRS webinar series on Biological Control is about to start

SAVE THE DATE:

Wednesday 12th November  at 11 am CET/ 10 am UK:

Classical Weed Biocontrol – Experiences from the UK and the scope for European collaboration

This EWRS webinar series will showcase different approaches and aspects of biological weed control through presentations of researchers and experts in the respective fields. The first seminar in the series is dedicated to the weed management strategy of classical biological control (CBC).

Classical biological control offers a sustainable, long-term solution for managing non-native invasive weeds by introducing carefully selected natural enemies from the plant’s native range for control in its adventive range(s).

In this webinar, we will explore the UK’s experience with CBC, using case studies such as Himalayan balsam (Impatiens glandulifera), Australian swamp stonecrop (Crassula helmsii), and floating pennywort (Hydrocotyle ranunculoides).

We will discuss the scientific research, regulatory processes, and implementation, and what lessons have been learnt and can be applied more broadly. As many invasive plant species are not restricted by national borders, the case for stronger European collaboration is increasingly clear.

We will examine the opportunities and challenges of aligning research, regulation, and implementation across countries in Europe, and highlight how coordinated efforts could accelerate progress.

This session will be of interest to researchers, students, regulators, land managers, and policymakers working in invasive species management.

The webinar can host maximum 100 persons.
