online, 4th to 5th of May 2021

On behalf of the International Institute of Sugar Beet Research IIRB, we are pleased to forward the invitation to the

IIRB Seminar "Advancing weed control in sugar beet with sensors and field robotics" on May 4 and 5, 2021

Dear ladies and gentlemen, dear colleagues,

The International Institute of Sugar Beet Research IIRB will hold its 2021 seminar ‘Advancing weed control in sugar beet with sensors and field robotics’ on 4th and 5th May 2021, each 2 to 5 pm. We kindly invite you to attend this seminar which will be held in a virtual venue. We expect more than 150 international participants from sugar beet institutes, sugar industry, farmer’s associations, mechanical engineering companies, breeding companies and others to attend the seminar and would appreciate to welcome you there, too.

The options for sensor- and robot-assisted weed control have advanced significantly in the past years. The IIRB seminar will present the state of the art in the development of these technologies. Each of the two seminar afternoons will be split into a presentation and an exhibition part. Talks in the first session on 4th May, chaired by Professor Anne-Katrin Mahlein, will present an overview on the use of sensors and robots in agriculture, and a range of technical approaches. Talks in session 2 on 5th May, chaired by Mr. Bo J.M. Secher, will have a close view on current practical applications and the acceptance of the technology among farmers (see programme attached).

Next to the lecture programme, several exhibitors will be present in the virtual venue to show their latest developments in sensors, applications and robotics in short films.

The platform has been chosen explicitly to allow participants to easily get into contact with speakers, their colleagues as well as with company representatives via chats or direct 1:1 meetings. These meetings can be simply scheduled via the virtual venue, and we strongly encourage you to make use of this opportunity during the event. Company and start-up representatives will be available on each of the two afternoons to give you more information on their products.

Please register online via the web site of IIRB at www.iirb.org by 15th April 2021.

A participation fee of 28 € is requested to cover expenses for the virtual venue. You will immediately receive a confirmation after registration, and, in due time, an invoice on the fee. The link to the virtual venue will be sent beginning of May.

After the seminar, all presentations will be available on the IIRB web site accessible by IIRB members and seminar participants after login.

We look forward to welcoming you to the IIRB seminar in May. Please feel free to forward the invitation to other persons that may be interested.

Best regards,

Anne-Katrin Mahlein, Director, Institut für Zuckerrübenforschung
Bo Secher, Head of Agricenter, Nordic Sugar
Stephanie Kluth, Secretary General of the IIRB
