EWRS International Symposium on Aquatic Weeds
Will be held in Jyväskylä, Finland, in the period August 24 – 28, 2009
AIM: Bringing together people who are involved in research, management, extension and practical uses of aquatic plants, in order to exchange results, experiences, and information.
ORGANISERS: This symposium will be organised by the European Weed Research Society (EWRS), through its Working Group on Invasive Plants, in collaboration with the Working Group on Macrophytes of the International Society on Limnology (SIL), and the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE).
THEMES OF THE SYMPOSIUM: The main theme of the symposium will be ‘Aquatic invasions and their relation to environmental changes’. Other main topics are:
- Biology of Aquatic Plants
- Indicator value of Aquatic Plants
- Management of Aquatic Vegetation
- Practical Uses of Aquatic Plants
- Aquatic Plants as biological quality elements of the EU Water framework directive.

14 th Symposium of the European Weed Research Society in Hamar, Norway
The Symposium of EWRS is an institution with a long tradition as a vital forum for scientists to present their work on a broad range of weed science topics continuously facing new challenges in a changing Europe. The scientific programme covered all areas of weed science (crop and non-crop situations) including environmental aspects:

International Symposium on Intractable Weeds and Plant Invaders
The meeting took place in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel Island, Azores, Portugal. It was hosted by the Biology Department, University of the Azores.
Agricultural weeds and plant invaders are research subjects generally studied in isolation. However, intractable weeds and plant invaders also raise similar questions regarding their understanding and control. This symposium aimed to gather researchers from the fields of weed biology and plant invasions in the same meeting, allowing a broader discussion and a transfer of knowledge between these two complementary fields.
